2004-01-14 - 7:50 p.m. Disgusting discovery of the day: a multitude of frozen gobs of spit on the sidewalk by the Yonge and Queen streetcar stop. I counted up to 27, and then decided to stop, since it occurred to me that if someone asked me what I had done with my evening, I could think of few answers more pathetic than "counted the frozen spit gobs on the sidewalk at the corner of Yonge and Queen." It was disturbing though. I had to wonder, is the sidewalk there constantly covered in a layer of other people's disgusting saliva, and it's just that I usually don't notice because it's not generally cold enough to freeze in such recognizably bubbly, spit-shaped gobs? Or was there something about today in particular that provoked a massive outbreak of public spitting? Note to self: be more conscientious in future about removing shoes at door upon arrival home.
