Oy. You can bet that any conversation that begins with the words "I don't know how much you know about me, but I spent a lot of time in jail," is probably not going to go well. (The only possible exception I can think of is in slash, where an opener like that is probably leading up to some big gay sex.)
Between my housemates and I, we have dated people who have been in jail, people who have been in a psychiatric institution, and, in one memorable case, people who have been in both. And in our neighbourhood, we still qualify as part of the wave of gentrification... makes you think, doesn't it?
