2004-06-19 - 7:51 p.m. The ongoing meltdown of my immune system continues - I now have an ear infection as well as pneumonia. My ear has been bothering me a few days, but I didn't think I could have an infection, given that I was already on antibiotics. But I woke up this morning with crusty stuff in it, so set off the walk-in clinic. Where I had to not only wait for hours - literally for hours, I went in some time around 11:00 and it was past 2:30 by the time I got out - but wait for hours wearing a mask. I told them that yes, I knew I was coughing, that I had pneumonia that was already being treated, and that I was pretty confident I didn't have SARS or the next terrible flu pandemic, but what can you do... So, hours of waiting, wearing uncomfortable steamy mask while my nose ran inside it, and then the woman sitting next to me decided to chat: "I have been waiting since ten to ten this morning! I need to see the doctor so that he can write me a note that I can't write my exam on Monday, or I can't write it until next year! I can't write it because I have - " then she leaned over and whispered something incomprehensible into my infected ear, leaving me wondering what she could have that A) couldn't be said aloud B) would have no visble effects while still stopping her from writing an exam two days away and C)had just been breathed into my ear. I hate walk-in clinics.
