My boss said to me today "You and your insistent pestilence!". Which may be one of the more amusing things anyone has ever said to me in response to a meeting request.
I am learning interesting things galore about smallpox. Including the truth that, quite apart from plague and pestilence, through history humans have been one of their own worst enemies. And one of the ickier early vaccination pratices has given rise to a title which my housemates and I have been considering as either the name of my first novel or of our imaginary rock band - Harvesting the Pus of Orphans.
The new job is generally going OK, but the rest of my life is somewhat in chaos. Though a sweetly enthusiastic waiter told me the other day that I looked like Joanie from Happy Days. Which was inaccurate, apart from the curly brown hair thing, but sweet nonetheless given the low-tide status of my self-esteem at the moment.
