I am feeling extremely sorry for myself. I have one of those nasty summer cold/flu things that sap you of all energy, and the ongoing heat wave is not helping. Last year my summer cold turned into pneumonia. I can't afford to have that happen again this year, as I'm supposed to leave for Berlin later this week. Bugger. I'm taking a lot of vitamin C and Cold F/X.
My cousin's wedding was yesterday. He and his fiancee have lived together long enough by this point that we long ago started referring to her as a cousin as well, which led to some interested reactions from other people when we mentioned the wedding:
"I can't go to a movie, my cousins are getting married and their wedding is Saturday night."
"Your... cousins are getting married? like, to each other? Is that a good idea?"
My other cousin's baby was there, and added hilarity to the proceedings by burping loudly into the silence after the minister said that bit about if anyone had any reason why they shouldn't get married, speak now or forever hold your peace etc...
I had to get a new passport issued for my upcoming trip. The office building where the passport office lives has a little mall on the ground floor, which I had never been into before, and which seems oddly like the mall that time forgot. There's a genuine shoe-shine shop, with rows of chairs that you can sit in for your shine, an old-style barber-shop, a hatter, and a dry-cleaning place that also advertises custom-made trousers... I really wonder how they all stay in business.
